With a strong focus on self-defense, Alliance’s fundamental class incorporates the same jiu jitsu first taught at the original Gracie academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the 1960′s. The class is designed to prepare students for both self-defense, and sport jiu jitsu while at the same time improving cardiovascular endurance, balance, and coordination. The fundamental program is designed for anyone, male or female, of any body type, or age (18 and over).
The class quickly prepares students for Alliance’s world renown advanced class, and gives students a sturdy base of knowledge that they will put to practice throughout their jiu jitsu study. Class format consists of the following; a light warm-up, 2-3 techniques are shown, and finally several drills are performed. The drills are Alliance’s secret to successful teaching, and are equivalent to sparing for beginners, but are done with little resistance to reinforce proper technique.
There is very little, to no full-contact sparring in the fundamental class. Our founders, Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti and Fabio Gurgel believe this is key in the evolution of beginning jiu jitsu students. Students with no grappling experience are asked to attend 40-50 fundamental classes, or 2-3 months before attending advanced classes.
This is our rice-and-beans class. Taught by our black and brown belt instructors, this class is held 5 times per week. Focused on the science of Brazilian jiu jitsu, this class is perfect for professional MMA fighters, hobbyists, and students who wish to focus on the sport/competition aspect of jiu jitsu.
In about two hours, students will warm-up, perform advanced jiu jitsu techniques, participate in positional specific training, and participate in free sparring. The class is highly organized but also family oriented. We find that some of our students spent almost as much time at Alliance than they do with their own families. Because of this, Alliance focuses on providing a safe, and friendly atmosphere.
The Alliance system has been proven to be the premier teaching methodology in the world. Don’t believe us? Check out the link below. It lists the results for the 2010 World Championships of Brazilian jiu jitsu. Look at who took first place in the overall adult division. The Alliance Jiu Jitsu System is proven. Period.

Jiu Jitsu is an amazing and unique martial art. That said, the focus in group classes is to help everyone improve, but may not address your own unique game. Privates help jump start your training by getting you out of plateaus, and breathe new life into short-lived techniques. Private sessions can knock off years of training by providing you with individualized techniques–for your specific game–so that when you come to class you know what you need to focus on!
