Nova BJJ Guiding Principles
Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are comprehensive and designed to accommodate absolute beginners through advanced practitioners. We have a great community of people to help you including a knowledgeable team of instructors and very dedicated group of students. When you enroll at Nova, you will first gain confidence while learning a solid foundation of self-defense, followed by more sport-based Jiu Jitsu. Drilling and live training are also an important part of our curriculum. To begin our gi and no gi classes, expect to be taken through a dynamic warm up, take down, and ground techniques in every session. We also focus on developing awareness, timing, distancing, and sensitivity as these elements are often overlooked, but extremely important for mastering the game. Nova BJJ’s fun-yet-focused atmosphere is suitable for recreational and competitive players alike.
What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art based on grappling and ground fighting techniques. The aim of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Rochester is to control and subdue a larger and stronger opponent through the use of superior techniques, leverage, and body mechanics. With an emphasis on grappling rather than striking, students are able to practice with varying levels of intensity, without the threat of serious injuries which can occur more often in martial arts focused on punching and kicking.
